Bentley released their sales numbers for last year and for the third time in as many years, sales exceeded 10,000 units.  To be precise, the company sold 10,100 cars in 2015.  That’s down from 2014 when Bentley sold 11,020 cars and it is almost exactly the same number of luxury cars they sold in 2013.

Like Rolls-Royce, who reported yesterday, Bentley faced a strong headwind in China where sales were down 36% over last year.  The reversal of 2014’s sales gains in that country brought Bentley sales back to where they were in 2013.  Despite this fact, the numbers are not disappointing for Bentley.  The company still outsold their main competitor, Rolls-Royce, by nearly 2 1/2 times and expanded their dealer network to 203 stores worldwide.

The U.S. remained the largest market for Bentley but sales dropped 10% over last year.  The difference was made up by a 10% gain in Europe and strong demand in the Middle East where the United Arab Emirates bought enough Bentley’s to be the fifth best country.

“This international success is a further indication of the strength of Bentley’s brand, ” said Kevin Rose, Bentley’s Member of the Board for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, about the year.  “We are also seeing markets such as South Korea, Russia and Japan grow rapidly too. This will only help us grow further, without compromising our exclusivity, and providing even greater long-term stability for Bentley Motors.”

As has been covered extensively on this Bentley Blog, Bentley launched a new product line this year.  The brand’s first SUV, the Bentley Bentayga, began production in late November.  This means the impact of the much anticipated model won’t be seen until next year when Bentley expects to sell 3,500 to 5,000 units more than this year.

The company has also expressed interest in a new sports car to compete with the Aston Martins and Ferraris of the world, along with a convertible version of their uber-luxury sedan, the Mulsanne.  With this expanded lineup, Bentley Motors intends to grow annual sales to 20,000 in sales by 2025.
