Bentley announced today that they have signed Bentley Team Absolute Racing for the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge season. Absolute Racing will campaign at least two cars with the potential to add a third.
Bentley Team Absolute Racing ran three Bentleys in the GT Asia series this season and won a championship with Adderly Fong and Kewa Sawa at the wheel of a Continental GT3. For 2016, Bentley is returning for their second full season in the Pirelli World Challenge. They ran two cars with Dyson Racing for half of 2014 season and all of the 2015 season.
“We’ve won major international championships in Europe and Asia this year and it is certainly the plan to take a title in America,” said Brian Gush, Bentley’s Director of Motorsport. “Bentley Team Absolute has proven they have what it takes, so we are excited to take our relationship into another continent to take on another challenge.” Absolute Racing will continue its GT Asia program for 2016.
Absolute Racing has confirmed two drivers for the Pirelli World Challenge: Adderly Fong and Andrew Palmer. Fong has a full season and the GT Asia championship from behind the wheel of a Continental GT3. Palmer became the youngest driver ever to score a win in World Challenge in 2014. He competed in the Blancpain Endurance Series in 2015 with a Lamborghini were he challenged Bentley’s two factory entries.
“We are pleased to have Adderly back for a second season and look forward to welcoming Andrew into the Bentley fold,” said Gush. “We have been very impressed with Andrew, not only did he become the youngest ever overall race winner in Pirelli World Challenge in 2014 but he has shown great maturity and talent in 2015 and we look forward to working with him to develop his career further.”
Discussing his new team, Palmer said, “2015 has been an amazing year for me. When we started to look at our options for 2016 and the chance to return to the Pirelli World Challenge with Bentley Team Absolute was presented to us it was immediately very appealing. I know the series well and the chance to continue and build on the success we had there in 2014 just felt right for the next stage of my career.”
Bentley Team Absolute is excited about replicating their success in GT Asia here in the States. The team’s Director, Ingo Matter, said, “It’s a major new market for our team and we couldn’t be happier to be doing it with Bentley. Our experience in Asia with the Bentley Continental GT3s will give us a major boost. We’re sure that the combination of Adderly’s experience with the car and Andrew’s experience in the Pirelli World Challenge will also add further layers of confidence to the program.”
The Pirelli World Challenge kicks off at the Circuit of the Americas on March 3rd, 2016. The potential third entry from Absolute Racing could be announced as soon as next month. Read more about Bentley Team Absolute Racing.
