While we in the United States were celebrating Independence Day, Bentley Team HTP was in Moscow celebrating a win in the Blancpain Sprint Series. This is quite a streak that Bentley is on. This past weekend’s win is coming on the heals of Bentley Team Absolute’s win in Japan and Bentley Team Dyson Racing’s win in Wisconsin the weekend before.
Driving for HTP, Maximilian Buhk and Vincent Abril scored their maiden victory in the Continental GT3 while Jules Szymkowiak and Max van Splunteren claimed the win in the Silver Cup reserved for young drivers in a second Continental GT3.
At the same time as the events in Russia, Bentley Team HTP were also successful at the ADAC GT Masters at Lausitzring. In a heated battle in temperatures up to 38 degrees, both Bentley Continental GT3 claimed points in the two races.
HTP’s young guns, Buhk and Abril, put on a great performance in the first race of the Sprint Series on Russian soil. A third place finish in the qualifying race set the stage for the feature race. Starting from third, Abril quickly jumped out to a lead and immediately created a gap between him and the pack. Buhk was handed the lead as he took over driving duties at the halfway point in the timed event.
At the 60 minutes mark, Buhk took the checkered flag a solid seven seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The results of this race put Bunk and Abril in second place in championship point with three races remaining.
“It’s a great feeling to be back on top of the podium,” said Maximilian Buhk. “At the start of the season we had a new car, we learned a lot and now the successes come. We are very happy. This is a great success for the whole team.”
New to Bentley Team HTP wasMax van Splunteren, who was driving a Bentley for the first time. Teamed up with Jules Szymkowiak, the two Dutchmen added to HTP’s success by wining the Silver Cup class at the same race. They finished 10th overall.
At the Lausitzring round of the ADAC GT Masters, the two Bentley Continental GT3s of Luca Stolz and Jeroen Bleekemolen and Clemens Schmid and Fabian Hamprecht not only fought against their competitors, but also against the very hot conditions of the day. After two flawless races, Stolz and Bleekemolen finished sixth and seventh, while Schmid and Hamprecht scored points in both races for the time this season and finished seventh and ninth.
Talking afterwards, Jeroen Bleekemolen said, “We took the maximum out of both races but this weekend it was not possible to fight for another podium. We lacked some speed to fight at the front. We will work hard in the summer break and I hope we can race for a podium again at the next round.”
“A great weekend for Bentley and Bentley Team HTP,” said Bentley Team HTP team principal Norbert Brückner. “We are proud to give Bentley it’s first victory in the Sprint Series and can be equally proud of the strong performance of the entire team and drivers in Blancpain Sprint Series and ADAC GT Masters.”
