The Continental GT Speed returns for 2017 and this time Bentley’s most powerful GT gets even more. More power, more torque and more color. This new version gets 7 more horsepower and 15 more lb ft of torque than its predecessor. With 633 horsepower, it can hit 60mph in 3.9 seconds and an unchanged top speed of 206mph.
If one believes the rumors, then the current Continental GT doesn’t have much time left with us. The third generation Continental GT is expected to be unveiled in 2016 and go on sale in 2018. Just like the last hurrah of the first generation Conti, the Supersports, the engineers in Crewe are wringing everything they can out of the last model year of this generation.
The Supersports was a legend in its own time. 621 hp, a 204mph top speed, and unique bodywork and blacked out trim made it not only fast, it looked fantastic.
Bentley says there will not be a Supersports version of the second generation Continental GT, but now you can replicate its look with the new Black Edition. (update: perhaps there will be a second generation Supersports after all.)
Available in both coupe and convertible body styles, Black Edition cars have high gloss black finish to the exterior brightwork including the window openings and lamp bezels. Brake calipers can be specified in black or red for no cost and its 21” five-spoke directional wheels are finished in a black gloss.
The Black Edition is available to be ordered in any Continental exterior color and now comes with an interesting color accent feature.
The front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser come in one of four shades: Hallmark, Beluga, St James’ Red and Cyber Yellow. Customers can also choose to match the door mirrors in the same accent color.
The accent color scheme is similar to what we’ve seen Bentley use on a few recent limited editions like the Breitling Edition and the GT Black Speed. As you can see in the image below, Cyber Yellow really stands out.
Inside the car, the Black Edition has complementary accents to match the customer’s choice of exterior accent colors. Those hide colors are Porpoise, Beluga, Pillar Box Red or new Cyber Yellow.
The Speed model receives Mulliner’s famous diamond quilted seats and door panels. On the Black Edition, they are stitched with corresponding accent colors, which really accentuate the unique patterns of the seat. Finishing the interior, the fascias are dark Carbon Fiber.
The Continental GT is an amazing machine. In a world of automated assembly, the factory in Crewe hand spends 12 hours hand assembling each W12. Every leather hide is hand selected to ensure the highest level of quality control. The result is an extremely capable luxury grand tourer that can deliver and incredibly sporty drive if you want it to, yet with flex fuel capability and displacement on demand, is the perfect cruiser for a weekend best up the coast.
