For the first time in a decade, a Bentley be competing in race on American soil.  The Bentley Continental GT3 will race on June 20th at Road America  in the Pirelli World Challenge.

Bentley and Dyson Racing are partnering to campaign the car.  Butch Leitzinger will be driving for Dyson Racing Team Bentley.

“Selecting the drivers for this Anglo-American program was the easy part,” Dyson said. “Both Butch, who’s American and Guy, a Brit, have strong and enduring ties to Bentley and to Dyson Racing. Most importantly, they are both experienced veterans who are fast and who know how to win. The Pirelli World Challenge races are all sprint events, so the racing is flat out from the start and a driver has to be able to get to the front quickly and still bring the car home in one piece. Both Guy and Butch can do that. They are a formable pair for sure.”

The last time Bentley raced in North America was when a pair of Bentley’s Speed 8 cars raced at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2003.  Dyson Racing Team Bentley will be entering four more racing on the continent.  In addition to Leitzinger, long time Bentley driver Guy Smith will be behind the wheel.  Smith currently drives a Bentley GT3 in the Blancpain Series in Europe.

This is a good move by Bentley to continue to build their racing program.  They definitely have a bit of an uphill battle as their partner, Dyson, hasn’t raced since last year and the team is joining the Pirelli World Challenge Series mid season.  We’ll find out soon as it’s only a couple days away.  If you’re attending at Elkhart Lake, let me know!
