It’s time again for the Goodwood Festival of Speed.  We’ve already brought you coverage of what Aston Martin will be displaying, so of course we want to bring you Bentley’s lineup, since that’s what we’re all about here at The Pursuit.

In addition to the full lineup of luxury and performance Bentleys on display, Bentley is bringing a pair of famous cars too.  The cars are the 1930 Bentley Speed Six known as Blue Train and the 2015 Continental GT Speed that recently broke the land speed record at the Flying Mile.

This year marks the 85th anniversary of the famous Blue Train race.  As the story goes, in 1930 Bentley investor and Chairman Woolf Barnato was staying in Cannes, France, when he bet that he could not only beat the Calais-Mediterlanée Express, known as the Blue Train, back to Calais, but that he would be in London having a drink at his club before the train reached its destination.

Of course it wouldn’t be a story if Barnato had not been successful!  Barnato and a copilot drove through the night, only stopping for fuel and made it back to London with only minutes to spare.  The car on display this week is a two door coupé Speed Six which is now believed to have been built after the race by Barnato to commemorate his accomplishment.  Bentley uses the car’s likeness in their marketing because of how well know it is.

Idris Elba breaks ‘Flying Mile’ at legendary land speed location Pendine Sands

Elba achieves an average speed of 180.361mph to beat record set by Sir Malcolm Campbell in 1927.

Separated by 85 years, the second famous Bentley that will be at Goodwood is the Continental GT Speed, which actor Idris Elba drove at Pendine Sands in Wales to a historic top speed.  The previous record had not been broken since Sir Malcolm Campbell set it in 1927.  Elba’s exploits were filmed The Discovery Channel for their series, Idris Elba: No Limits, which airs in July.

Joining these two Bentleys will be a 1929 4 1/2 Litre Blower Bentley, the Continental GT3 race car, and the road car inspired by the GT racer, the Continental GT3.  These three models will be making runs up the hill this weekend.

Bentley will once again have two stands at Goodwood. On the main stand is the current line-up of the brand’s models.  Present will be the latest Mulsanne, Flying Spur and the Continental GT.  We are still waiting on Bentley’s first SUV, the Bentley Bentayga.

As we mentioned yesterday, Bentley will also have a stand showing a few examples of their certified pre-owned cars.  The Bentley pre-owned stand will be located close to the Hillclimb bridge crossing, just a short walk from the main Bentley presence. Alongside this selection of pre-owned cars, there will also be a display of wheel and styling options designed by Bentley to enable existing owners to personalize their vehicles.
