It was supposed to be a good weekend for Bentley Team Absolute, who were coming off a strong performance last month at Road America. Instead, a gremlin in the gearbox of the #88 Bentley Continental GT3 appeared during the warmup for the weekend’s first race.
As a result, Adderly Fong and Absolute Racing had to withdraw from race 1. The team was able to repair the issue for the weekend’s second race on Sunday but because of how the Pirelli World Challenge qualifies cars for the second race, Fong would start in 18th place.
Fong ran a very intelligent second race. Thanks to some smart passing and the withdrawal of a couple of competitors, he was able to move his Bentley up to 11th place by race end while saving the car for Utah.
Saturday’s DNF wasn’t fun for the team and didn’t score any points. After the weekend, Absolute Racing sits in 5 place in the championship, just behind Real Time Racing (Acura). Adderly Fong is in 9th place in the Driver’s Championship. Bentley Team Absolute Racing will be at the Utah Motorsports Complex next on August 12-14th.
