2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II

This recall isn’t going to impact many readers because it only impacts one car. Not one model…just one car.

BMW of North America, Rolls-Royce’s owner, is recalling the single Rolls-Royce Ghost that was built on January 23rd, 2014.  That exact vehicle apparently has some issues with the front seat airbags.  If this is your car, please contact your dealer to arrange a fix.

The NHTSA has made manufacturers announce many more recalls in recent years  amidst several scandals.   We don’t know the backstory here, but it must be an interesting one.  Leave a comment if you have some insight.

Recall notice:

RECALL Subject : Side Impact Crash Worthiness/FMVSS 214
Report Receipt Date: OCT 23, 2015
 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V695000
 Component(s): AIR BAGS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1
Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling one model year 2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost manufactured on January 23, 2014. The affected vehicle has thorax air bags fitted to both front seats that may fail to meet the side impact performance requirements for the front seat occupants. As such, this vehicle may fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
In the event of a vehicle crash necessitating air bag deployment, this may increase the risk of injury to the front seat passengers.
A Rolls-Royce dealer will replace the driver-side and passenger-side thorax air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began October 22, 2015. Owners may contact Rolls-Royce at 1-877-877-3735.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
